An Army of Owls

Aren't they cute?! My own little army of owls! What a HOOT!

I used the "Hoot n Holler" cartridge by Cricut to cut them out. Each little guy had 6 pieces to put together...it's a good thing I love owls so much! WHEW

You'll have to stop back by tomorrow to see what I use these little guys for. It's going to be so cute!

Corner Bookmark

Hi friends!

I'm so excited...I've got several ladies coming over next Tuesday for a crop at my house! I've been planning this for quite a while and finally got around to scheduling it. Although I want it to be very laid back and informal I do want to plan at least one "make and take" for everyone to complete so they'll have something to take home with them. I remember going to crops years ago and they are sometimes so overwhelming that it's hard to get ANYthing done so at least they'll have the make and take to remember the day by.

I'm tossing around several ideas...this bookmark seems easy enough and quite practical which we all know I LOVE!

So, if you have any other ideas for some fabulous make and takes please comment below. I know you all are full of great ideas!

P.S. The quote says "True beauty lies within. I know that yours will shine so brilliant it will be blinding."

Really Quick Card

I literally made this card in like ten minutes! Holy fast papercrafting batman!!

I watched a technique on youtube showing how to emboss with your cuttlebug and then brayer ink over the embossed image. Easy-peasy! In fact, I think it took longer to upload the pic and blog about it than it took to make it!

So, go have some fun with your cuttlebug and some inks!

The Best Present EVER!

My new chicken coop

So, yeah, probably NOT what you were expecting! Am I right?! A chicken coop for my 36 chickens IS the best present I've ever received from my hubby (and my children). If you know me at all then you know I'm a very practical person...not really a
"flowers and jewelry" type gal when it comes to gift receiving. (in fact, this practical side even gets in the way of my crafting sometimes. If I can't find a way to USE the craft I'm making I just can't seem to justify making it! I'm really trying to work on that...'cause sometimes it's OKAY to just craft for fun!)

So, anyway, I had been wanting a new and improved coop for quite a while. I'd been searching pinterest (really, what did we ever do without PINTEREST?!) for ideas, hubby and I had talked about options, it was one of those things we were going to do when we had some extra time. Well, my dear, sweet hubby decided that last week was TIME! As a family the four of us worked Mon-Fri last week putting this thing together. We had a BLAST! Memories were made for sure. I can imagine us years from now talking about the week we spent building a coop for "mom's girls".

When I look at it I don't just see a cute "chick shack" (though it IS that!) but I see a labor of love from my family to me. I encourage you today to discover all the different "love languages" of the loved ones in your life. You might be surprised at what "speaks" love to them!

And now for the gallery! The pictures don't really do it justice. I wish I could invite each and everyone of you over to visit and see it in person!

LOVE the dutch door!

Is it the chicken's house or Mama's house?

Quick Post and Then Back to Work!

Super quick post today. Dear hubby and I are trying to finish building our chicken coop. We were on such a roll yesterday and got rained out! Don't you just hate it when you've got momentum rolling along and then BAM! you've gotta stop?! I super hate that when I've got my crafty mo-jo on but some things can't be avoided!

So here's a couple of gifts I gave to two of my sweetest friends this past weekend. They are both avid tea drinkers and seamstresses; PERFECT fit!

These little pin cushions were so much fun to make. I watched several tutorials before attempting these and in an effort to keep things real here at "Hoo Wants to Craft?" I gotta tell you...they're NOT as easy as those talented ladies make them out to be! The hardest part is getting the fiberfill formed into a pretty little ball and then all snug up inside whatever fabric you choose to use. I tend to be a tad obsessively concerned about the little details so this step bugged me to no end! BUT, I conquered it in the end and wound up making TWO! (Next time I might use the styrofoam balls that the one tute uses; if so, I'll come back and let you know how those compare) I will say that I wound up liking my second one better so maybe this is a craft that just takes practice and the more I make the better I'll get. Yeah, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Edited to note: This post was actually written on 5/22/12 but the building of the coop took up consumed my time this week and it's taken me this long to get the photos uploaded to attach to it! The coop came out so good that it will get it's own post soon! Stay tuned!

NSD 2012 Prize Pack!

I've waited several days to post these pictures because I didn't want to be a spoiler! But, I warn you...if you won a prize pack from Scrapbook.com during their NSD 2012 event and haven't received your package...DON'T CONTINUE READING THIS POST!!!
So, for all my regulars, y'all will remember how excited my daughter and I were to have BOTH won a prize pack from SB.com during their all day SUPER FUN NSD 2012 event. The packages arrived Monday. We saw our mailman driving up the driveway and both ran to meet him on the deck; he looked surprised to have been greeted with such excitement. Wonder how often he gets greeted that way?! I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story...

Yep, There is Something Different Around Here!

Nope, you're eyes are NOT playing tricks on you...last time you were here there WAS a different title at the top of the page. My previous title, "Becky's Babblings, Blutherings, and Other Such Poppycock" worked for the content of my blog when I first started out. My blog consisted of total random ramblings (or "babblings") about my totally random life...a little about my children, a little about homeschooling, a little about my farm, my crafting, etc. Recently I've changed direction a bit and decided to focus this here blog on one specific area of my life...CRAFTING. (although I suspect I won't be able to resist mentioning my children here and there!)
Just like I say in my profile, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE sharing crafting with others and I'm always asking others if they want to come over and craft with me. SEE?! The new title totally FITS!

P.S. On a side note, I TOTALLY do not like DESPISE the font currently used in my title. However, I know nothing (yet!) about HTML so for the time being I'm stuck with the ugly letters.

Card for a Soon to be Soldier

Here's a quick card I made for the son of a good friend of mine. He recently joined the Army and is just about finished with boot camp. I'm so very proud of him and also very grateful to him and all the other men and women who bravely serve our country each and every day.

Supplies Used:
  • Cardstock
  • Eyelets
  • Recollections Stickers
  • Sharpie Pen

Techniques Used:
  • Faux Stitching
  • Fussy Cutting (I cut the star stickers out of a border sticker; then I used baking soda on the back to "de-sticky" them so I could add dimensionals)

Note: This card is an abnormal size (7x4) so I didn't have an envelope to fit it. I watched a video on youtube that explained how to make your own card for any size card. (really! what did we ever do without youtube!!!) Very helpful! I can see myself using this technique over and over. I get bored making things "standard" all the time!

Post It Note Holders

Quick post to show you some adorable little gifts I just made. They are post it note holders. Cute, right?! They are soooo easy to make. I made all 4 of these in about an hour. I came across a wonderful tutorial here that explained the process so well. (Thanks, Dawn!) You can make them, too!

Close Up View
All four!
Now you go make one! (or two, or three...) And then come back and tell me all about it. Please?

(Oh, I should mention that those little notches on the spine are pen holders. I just haven't made it to the store to buy the mini pens that are required. They were just so stinkin' cute I wanted to share them right away. That's ok, right? If you view the tutorial that I mentioned above you'll see exactly what pens to buy and how they look attached.)

NSD 2012 Wrap-Up with BIG News!

So, NSD 2012 went NOTHING like I planned and I couldn't be happier!

I had mentioned in my last post how pumped up I was to participate in the MyPinkStamper NSD event just like I did last year; well, turns out that although her DT did have a blog hop on Saturday the event was nothing like last year. She wasn't involved, no hourly challenges...boo hoo. I had planned a big Mommy/Daughter day with Emily involving all sorts of crafty fun and it was beginning to look like we were on our own. I decided to do a quick google search for "NSD 2012 Event" and after a little surfing around landed at Scrapbook.com. I have had an account there for a couple of years but had forgotten about it. Boy, am I glad I "found" them again! They had the most exciting, well organized, SUPER fun NSD event planned! There were hourly challenges, HUGE prize giveaways, lots of chatter, did I mention HUGE prize giveaways?! Emily and I were back in business. We were so happy to have somewhere to play along and some fun ladies to craft with. BUT IT GETS BETTER!

I was one of the randomly selected winners in the second challenge!!! Oh my goodness, the screaming and jumping around that ensued. I think we scared my hubby and son to death. They came running from the other end of the house wondering what all the ruckus was about. It was so exciting!!! After we finally got ourselves calmed down we started in on the next hourly challenge. GUESS WHAT? Emily was randomly selected as a winner in that challenge!!!!!! Are you kidding me??!!! We nearly died when we saw her name on the computer screen in the list. And the boys were scared before?! We nearly broke their eardrums this time! Oh, yeah...remember I mentioned HUGE prize giveaways??? Each prize pack given away contains product valued at $175!!! To say we can't wait to get our prizes is an understatement! We shall be stalking our postman this week!

NSD 2012 will definitely go down as one of the funnest days we've had EVER! And the fact that we won something was just icing on the cake!

Here are a couple pics of our projects from the challenges.

An *Almost* Anniversary

I was just looking around my blog a little this morning (honestly, just trying to find ways to kill time until the MyPinkStamper NSD Event starts!) and noticed that the VERY FIRST blog post I ever did was last year's MyPinkStamper Challenge #1!!!
Woo-Hoo! Happy Anniversary to meeeeee! (well, almost. My "official" anniversary will be 5/7/12.) Feel free to send a card! :-)

That first challenge last year was "cupcakes"...wonder what today's will be? My ATG is loaded and I'm ready to go!!! Let the scrappin' begin!

Tomorrow's the Big Day!

Just a quick post to let you know that tomorrow is National Scrapbook Day and there's going to be ALOT going on! Last year my daughter and I participated in My Pink Stamper's ALL DAY event that included hourly challenges and giveaways. It was SO FUN! We are doing it again this year...just like that we've started a Mommy/Daughter tradition!
So, there will be a ton of posts with lots of fun pictures so you can see what we're creating all day long tomorrow. If it's anything like last year's event there will be a different challenge EVERY hour and then everyone uploads a picture of their creation so we can all "ooh and ahh" over everyone's project. I remember it being a very FUN and FAST PACED day!

Wonderful Opportunity!

I've been following Megan Elizabeth for several months now. She is such a talented crafter and comes across the computer screen as such a genuine, down to earth, NICE person. Well, this week she is in the process of launching something that PROVES all those things are TRUE! If you've ever wanted to take your "little" blog (or make your "big" blog BIGGER) and turn it into something more you need to pop right over to her website and see what she has going on. It's AWESOME! Seriously, go RIGHT NOW before you even finish this blog post! I'll wait right here for ya'.

You back?
See, wasn't I telling the truth?
Aren't you excited?

Do you already have visions running around in your head of all the possibilities this could open up for you? Well, I sure do! You see, I'm a stay at home, homeschooling, crafty mom who spends WAY TOO much time on the internet! (Someone, please shout "Amen, sister!" so I know I'm not the only one!) About a month ago I decided that I needed to research ways to make this "surfing the net all the time" thing work for me. (or at least provide a way for me to justify to the hubby all the hours I spend blogging, and pinteresting, and youtube watching, and....) And then here comes Megan Elizabeth basically handing me a bulleted list of things I need to do!!! Talk about timing!!!

So, anyhoo, I'm a little excited to see what the immediate future holds for myself and all the rest of you who decide to jump in with both feet and see what comes of this journey. I'd love to see some comments and hear some of your thoughts/dreams/visions about all of this!

Calling in sick...

No blog post today...I'm down with a cold. As it's 90 degrees here today I think I can safely call this a "summer cold".

Hope to be back in "posting form" tomorrow.
