New Followers...YAY!

I've picked up a couple of new followers in the past few days...thanks ladies! I love making new crafty friends!

Those that have been with me for a while know that due to my children being in FL for the summer (visiting grandparents) I am without a camera. It's KILLING me! Ok, that's a little dramatic but it's REALLY hard. First, it's hard because I'm crafting all these adorably cute projects without being able to share them with you guys and second, I. MISS. BLOGGING. There, I've said it and I feel much better. Who knew I would miss typing into this little white box so much? A few years ago when I tried "the blog thang" I hated it! I always felt that if I missed a day or two here and there I might as well just give up. And so I did. Give up, that is.

This time around blogging is just so much more fun...must be due to my older, more mellow self! HA! HA! I turned 40 a few months ago and instead of being all upset and depressed about that I find myself crediting it any time someone points out something positive in my character. I'm more mellow? Must be because I'm 40 now. I'm more patient? Must be because I'm 40 now. You enjoyed that meal I cooked? Must be because I'm 40 now.

So anyHOO, maybe I'll just blog about the randomness of my life for the next couple of weeks. I should have my children AND MY CAMERA home by the middle of July. (I'm really much more excited about having my children home...seriously.)

Go craft something!

A Blogging Dilemma

Good morning, friends!

My parents came, they visited, they took the children back to Florida!

For those who don't know, my children go to FL every summer with my parents for several weeks. Right now I'm in that "excited to have some quiet time and have tons of fun stuff planned" stage; soon, I will cross over to the "I MISS my children SOOOOO much, they are NEVER going to FL for this long again EVERRRR crying" stage. Happens every year. It used to take me by surprise, now I'm ready for it!

So anyHOO...the dilemma. Quite a while ago, (prior to re-launching my blog into primarily my online craft spot) I lost my camera. (I know, I know...what kind of scrapbooker doesn't have a camera???!) So, the only way I've been able to take pictures of my creations to share with all of you has been by using my daughter's iPod. That thing takes UH-mazing pictures! I WILL own one of those puppies one day...probably won't be until I've got the children grown and gone but ONE DAY! But I digress...Baby girl took the iPod to FL, of course. So, now I'm back to no camera. Boo-hoo. I thought I had come up with the perfect "plan B" the other night; using my laptop's web cam! Sounds good, right? Well, I can't get the darn thing on! I played around with it once or twice when I first bought the laptop (so I know it worked!) but I've not used it in forever. I spent an hour the other night trying to figure out how to get into it...failed. So, long story short...for the next 5 weeks (yes, they go for that long...now you know why the crying stage eventually comes!) my little blog will be picture-less. (anyone have a spare camera laying around?!) As I do with most things in life, I'm choosing to see the silver lining here...I'll get to focus a lot more on writing...or, I'll get bored with that and let it sit idle for the next 5 weeks...it's a toss-up

Now, I'm off to craft something...in a totally quiet craft room! YIPPEE!!!

A Few Days Off

Good morning, friends! Just wanted to let you know that I'll be taking a few days off from blogging. My parents are visiting and that means fun family time! I'll "see" all of you wonderful people next week! Have a SUPER weekend!

Father's Day Card 2012

So here's a quick Father's Day card I made last night. I've been playing around with a few "new to me" techniques. Some I'm loving and some...not so much. And some, like the one here, I'm loving but needing some more practice on! I used my Perfect Pearls Mists for the first time on this card. This card started out as a bright white piece of cardstock; I sprayed perfect pearl on it just to tone it down some and give some shimmer. That part worked fine. But then I decided to add the sentiment flag at the bottom and wrote the sentiment BEFORE spraying the Perfect Pearls. DON'T DO THIS! See how my ink ran? Since I had already completed the WHOLE rest of the card I decided to go with it and just call it a "distressed technique". And, since my Dad loves me a WHOLE bunch, I bet he won't mind!

Supplies used:
  • pre-cut white card base
  • craft cardstock
  • tree image from Basic Grey stamps "critters 'n treats"
  • red buttons from my stash
  • brown ink from Studio G
  • Perfect Pearls Mists "perfect pearl"
  • pop dots
I'm going to do something with this card I've never done before. I'm LINKING UP to a challenge! I'm linking up to the Father's Day Challenge over at More Than Favors: Wacky WednesdayYou should, too!

Creativity STRIKES!

So, I wasn't in a particularly creative mood last night. Usually when this happens I'll surf a few youtube videos 'cause even when I'M not feeling creative I like watching people who ARE! I stumbled across this video for making the cutest mini photo wallet out of a SINGLE piece of 12x12 patterned paper. That's when I felt it...creativity STRUCK! Off to the craft room I went, located a piece of paper and got my CRAFT on! Here's the video I watched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFYoIfEWG4k
Aren't they the cutest things? And so LIGHTENING fast to make. If you pick an adorable PP, you hardly have to do any embellishing at all. I, however, couldn't turn OFF my creative MOJO so embellish away I did!
Here are some pics of the one I made...I see more of these in my future! (at least one to my sister!)

These little babies have so much storage room! You can include 8 tags/photo mats...using the front AND back of the tags that's room for 16 photos! This is a mini that packs a (storage) PUNCH
My favorite element of the whole project is the button I used on the front cover. It turned out looking like a doorknob! You can't really see it in the picture but it's darling in real life. The button was in one of the packages I won from scrapbook.com during their NSD event. Finally breaking down and using some of my winnings!
Have a great crafty day!

The Cards That Go With The Envelopes

I mentioned in my last post that I had made some unusual (i.e. not A2 size) sized cards for a graduation party. I couldn't show you the cards in that post because the party was just today and I didn't want to risk the recipients seeing their cards online. Party's over (it was a GREAT party!) so let the card gallery begin!

In each card I included a handmade bookmark that matched the card theme. On each bookmark I wrote a special Scripture verse blessing chosen specifically for each young lady. I've had the privilege of watching these three young ladies grow up over the last 4 years and I love each one of them dearly. I can't wait to see how each of their life journeys continue to unfold.

Handmade Envelopes

I mentioned on my FB this morning that I had made some unusually large graduation cards yesterday. (can't show the cards 'cause the recipients {or at least moms of the recipients} *might* be reading this blog post! come back next week and I'll have them posted after they've been received)

Anyhoo, I thought it would be okay to at least show the envelopes. What a process this was...a bit more difficult than I first thought. I guess I thought since I had the MS Score Board with it's handy-dandy envelope making tool the envelopes would just pop right out! NOT! A lot of measuring and mathematical skills go into figuring out the dimensions for odd shaped cards. Have I mentioned I'm NOT A MATHEMATICALLY INCLINED PERSON??!! However, I am a DETERMINED person and that worked in my favor today! I give you...drumroll please...handmade envelopes!

Definitely a learning experience. And that's what it's really all about...learning and growing in our craft...and in life. GO LEARN SOMETHING!

The Next Step...A Facebook Page

So, I just did something pretty cool. As least to me anyway! I created a FB page for "Hoo Wants to Craft?" Why would I need a FB page AND a blog you might ask. Good question. I even asked myself! So, here's the answer...the rather LONG answer...hee hee!
In addition to crafting my other passion is frugal living and the thrill of hunting for THE BEST deal. The only way I can afford to support my crafting habit is to never okay, rarely, pay full price for anything. I've been wanting to share my good deals with you but the blogging interface just doesn't lend itself to quick, short posts. (at least for me!) FB, on the other hand, is all about quick status updates; a much better environment for me to quickly post a good deal as I'm surfing the 'net.
So, go check it out. There's already a super GREAT deal posted! www.facebook.com/hoowantstocraft

Crop Day!

What an amazing time! Crop Day was a HUGE success! I had 11 ladies in all, including my daughter and I. It was a FULL house! When everyone first arrived there was a lot of chitting and chatting going on...the excitement of finding your seat...some wondering of what the day would bring.
Since we had at least one newbie in the house I spent the first 30 minutes or so going over some basics. I had printed some sheets out with titles like "Basic Supplies", "Websites to Visit" and "Card Sizes". I think they found those helpful.
Then we launched into our make and take project. The hardest thing about putting this crop together was coming up with the make and take. I wanted something that all skill levels could do, something that would be useful, something that would be cute, and something that would require minimal supplies so the newbies wouldn't be left out and get discouraged. Here's what we did:
It's a 3 x 3 card hole punched to attach to a gift bag. I buy my gift bags from the dollar store but then to jazz them up a little (and personalize them!) I rip off the attached gift tag and add my own. Eazy-peazy, lemon-squeezy!

After listening to me talk for 30 minutes and then completing our make and take we were all ready for some lunch! We had yummy homemade tuna salad (made by my dear friend LeGwen...look! you made the blog!!!) stuffed into pillowy soft pita bread. YUM-O
After filling up our tummies it was time to really get down to business. I had planned random giveaways throughout the day to keep it fun and lively and I announced a challenge for every hour. The first hour you were to include a button anywhere on your project, second hour was use the color green, and the third challenge was to have a flower show up somewhere in your project. To be honest, I wasn't exactly sure how the challenges would be received...they LOVED them! Especially the younger girls...we had 5 young ladies (daughters of the older ones) and it was so fun to listen to them chatting and discussing how they were going to complete each challenge. The dynamic was interesting...we older ladies seemed to work on our projects solo, but the younger ones were all about the team effort! One group project that got done was a scrapbook full of pages all about the children's dance ministry at our church. One of the young ladies heads up this group and she had brought pictures of all the children's past dance performances. Several of the girls created LO's to include in the scrapbook. It turned out beautifully and I loved that so many hands went into the creating.

All in all it was SUCH a fun day. Such fun that we scheduled the next one already. We'll be doing it again next month! I can't wait already!
Now for the pictures...

Army of Owls Part 2

So, it's a few days later than I promised but here is an update about what I did with all those cuteeee owls from the other day.

Owls are cute but owls AND chocolate??!! SHUT UP!

So, I'm super excited about hosting my very FIRST crop at my house tomorrow. YIPPEE!! I have about 11 ladies coming and this is the treat bag that will be waiting for them at their table. The little circle thingies in the bags are jumbo paper clip bookmarks I made for them with their initial stamped on it for a personalized flair. Silly me...I forgot to make myself one! Do you find yourself doing that? I'm always making these cute projects and giving them away and forgetting to make an extra to keep! And then I TELL myself I'll come back later and make myself one but NEVER DO!

Okee dokee, I'm off to plan more fun stuff for the festivities tomorrow. Yes, pictures will definitely follow!

Card and Bookmark Set

Here's a birthday card and bookmark set I made for a dear friend's birthday. This one was so fun to make; I've never really had a "style" when it comes to papercrafting but I'm starting to think one might be emerging. I'm loving the distressed, vintagy look. And it's really so perfect for me because I have always had a love for anything old. Take me to a thrift store, let me search for hours and that's my idea of a perfect day!
Do you have a "style"? Do you know what it is?

Wishing everyone a very blessed Sunday! Hope you can squeeze in some crafting time!
